Is Yoga a Religion? / Måns Broo

LECTURE: One of the first things any yoga practitioner learns is that yoga is  not religion. However, even a cursory look at any of the basic yoga  texts that also Western yogis eventually will study (such as the  Bhagavad-gita, the Upanisads or Yoga-sutra) show us that yogis not  only did the ancient yogis do their practice in a universe deemed inhabited by all kinds of superhuman beings, they often engaged  directly with these beings through their yoga.

How then can we call  yoga non-religious? In this talk, Dr. Måns Broo will approach the  question of yoga and religion from the point of view of the ancient  texts, particularly the Yoga-sutra, Bhagavad-gita and  Hatha-yoga-pradipika, bringing both clarity and nuance to the loaded  question of yoga and religion.
